Trivet Restaurant - Marriott Hotel

Case Studies

The newest edition of the Marriott Hotel in Albert St, Auckland.

Blending organic textures with warm wood tones and custom-made elements. The all-day eatery has a distinctively international feel while remaining a point of celebration for New Zealand's diverse multi-cultural food scene. The lighting design had to be flexible, adapting to each dining setting and creating a warm, inviting atmosphere. Flos and iGuzzini luminaires, along with bespoke items, all had to comply with the design objectives.

Flos Icons

Products

A dance between past and future.

"The desire to think of a renewed visual story for our icons forced us to think about why they were, after so many years, still contemporary" explains Barbara Corti. "We did it by photographing them in Milanese architecture built between the '30s and the '60s. They could have always been there or just installed. In this dance between past and future we told them through gestures and proxemics of those who inhabit the space, move, and interact with it. Design is not worn but is a powerful intermediary tool between us and what we inhabit. Icons are organs and tools for contemplating reality".

Behind the most iconic Flos lighting designs lies a bold spirit of innovation and a relentless commitment to pushing boundaries. Among their most renowned creations, lamps such as Arco, Snoopy, Taccia, and Parentesi continue to captivate and decorate homes worldwide, even decades after their debut.

Grey Lynn Residence

Case Studies

Jane's design principal for this project was to create a calm, considered home that is simple and elegant and as always, to remain timeless.

Working with the natural light that traverses the site throughout the day, the brief was to maintain a sense of flow whilst ensuring each space holds its own identity,

This project was to be a home, to be lived in and enjoyed where children could play and adults could entertain; enjoyment was to be linked with aesthetics, not aesthetics inhibiting enjoyment.

Articolo

Milan 2024

Articolo Home is a true celebration of Founder and Director Nicci Kavals’ love of Belgian architecture and Italian classicism, together with her respect for contemporary minimalism. Her influences are steeped in European history, yet she cleverly dials the atelier mood to tap into people’s desire for quiet luxury pieces within the home and create modern and practical chic for the everyday.

In creating her first furntiture smalls collection, Kavals found pure joy in juxtaposing texture and tactility with each piece, accented by Articolo Home’s use of metal, wood, leather and stone. There are earthed hues of latte, olive, burgundy and camel that allude to the eternal palette used by sophisticated heritage fashion houses in Europe.

Roda

Milan 2024

A partnership with iconic Italian fashion house Missoni and the last product design by the late Rodolfo Dordoni are some of the most notable innovations from Roda this 2024 Salone, their stand emanating the nurturing found amongst a garden of Eden.

Ritzwell

Milan 2024

In line with previous years, Ritzwell’s exhibition stand at Salone del Mobile Milano 2024 highlights the values and founding principles of the brand based on the search for a balanced mix between Japanese culture and contemporary language.

The new layout signed by studio 967 arch proposes a revisited and fresh version of some distinctive architectural elements, such as the columns (referencing Japanese temples) and tokonoma (alcoves/niches set up in the most important room of a Japanese home) that divide the exhibition space and dialogue with the natural elements.

Along the perimeters, the tokonoma - which are conceived as refined, elevated “showcases” illustrating the high quality of the products from up close - are alternated with a sort of “railing” that allows the eye to penetrate and observe the new furnishing solutions.

Inside, the environment is essential and welcoming: thanks to a concept focused on neutral and warm shades where the only accents of brighter yet never invasive colours announce the finishes of the brand's collections. The balanced installation narrative is reflected on the shapes and materials of the exhibits, where the careful study of perfectly calibrated lighting plays a key role in an interplay of shadows and reflections that enhance the pure elegance of the products made of precious materials like leather, soft hides, solid wood, and sophisticated fabrics.

Minotti

Milan 2024

Just like a symphony of voices, carefully orchestrated by the Minotti family, the collection expresses itself through a harmonious mix of elements and references to different periods and cultures, bringing together in a single language of stylistic coherence the visions of designers from all over the world, such as Marcio Kogan / Studio MK27, Nendo, GamFratesi, Inoda+Sveje, Hannes Peer and Giampiero Tagliaferri.

Interpreting the never-ending evolution of design, the collection is a dance-like dialogue between form and function, where each creation is a tribute to the encounter between stylistic memory and dynamic innovation. Moving to the notes of the 1970s, the volumes, materials and colours rediscover the vibrancy and spirit of that time in an original contemporary key.

BOCCI

Milan 2024

Via Giuseppe Rovani 20 is BOCCI's latest evolution of its presence in Milan.

The apartment enables BOCCI to play the role of host, offer long-term programming, and provide visitors with an in-depth experience of the brand and its ecosystem.

Linteloo

Milan 2024

Successful design stimulates the senses.

This was the intention that drove the 2024 collection presented by Linteloo this Salone. Stimulating feelings beyond physical touch, to feel the impact of the design reverberating within you, as much as out.

To touch and feel; penetrating the sensory experience beyond the physical realm, their designs bring the human touch with raw, organic forms and textures, referencing the maker's hands that brought it together, and the warmth that comes with human-centric design.

Van Rossum

Milan 2024

Scoop and cradle, float and hover—Van Rossum's 2024 collection celebrates the softness of curvature.

The curves depicted in their designs induce a sense of levitation, femininity, and gentility, in connection to the architecture, and its users.

The elegance imposed by the craftsmanship of Van Rossum reflects a quietly refined grace found in the timeless materiality, of timber and natural stone.

Piet Boon

Milan 2024

The 'Tides of Living': embracing the ebbs and flows of daily life.

Piet Boon's 2024 designs merge the tranquility of dawn with dusk’s dynamism, their new furniture collections invite a balance of serenity and celebration into every interior. This year, we proudly redefine each space within the home, bringing forth an array of new furniture pieces for every room—each with the unique Piet Boon character that harmonises functionality, aesthetics, and individuality. Crafted to only become more beautiful in time, each design expresses an understated sense of abundance that fits the modern zeitgeist, and far beyond.

Simple Machines

Case Studies

Photography by Sarah Rowlands. Design by Tom Norman at Three Sixty Architecture.

Channelling the warmth and casualness of a 'loft apartment' this renovation brought to life a contemporary office space for Simple Machine's Christchurch firm.

The building, located on Sugar Loaf Lane in Christchurch, was a former print house, this renovation saw it become Simple Machine's (a growing tech company) first bespoke New Zealand office.

Housing 18 desks, for full-time and seasonal visits from staff abroad, the design ensured an ongoing connection with the walkway, promising natural light, and retaining an open-plan feel, while also meeting the need for privacy with a closed-off meeting room and phone call nooks.

Sophistication was on the agenda and reflected through the details & finishes, interior planting, and maintaining the charm of existing period features like the barn doors and original structure.

Shortlisted for the Interior Architecture section of the NZIA Canterbury Architecture Awards 2024.

Lake House by Evelyn McNamara Architects

Case Studies

The lakeside bunker-like moodiness realized through a topography of place & partition was a key objective in lighting this holiday home in Lake Rotoiti.

The main light source was to be invisible but deliver pockets of light within the structure, as subtly as can be, maintaining the richness and warmth of the timber that lines almost every surface within the home.

Delicate decorative additions in the form of an organic opal glass wall light 'Gregg' by Foscarini in the bathroom, and Graypants 'Wick', a contemporary alternative to a candle, whose lightness and ease of movement makes it the ideal for dusk transitions, were small but not insignificant, final touches.

iGuzzini Laser Blade was recessed throughout the ceilings of the home, offering low glare high output illumination, necessary light but critically, didn't spill into the atmosphere beyond.

News & Events

‘The relationship humans have with light transcends a functional dimension and is elevated to an emotional one. Lamps are designed to illuminate the world with brightness, but also with the intimacy of shadow: the quality of light cannot solely be measured through its intensity. Blush Lamp makes use of a Led strip and a piece of dichroic glass to cast brightly-tinted reflections on walls to answer to the lack of colour saturation during winter months. With its sober design and meticulous use of light and colour, Blush Lamp recreates the indoor memory of a long summer day.’

Master of Minimalism

News & Events

Arrangements is a modular system of geometric light elements that could be combined in different ways, creating multiple compositions into individual chandeliers. Each unit simply attaches onto the previous one as if resting, balancing perfectly as part of a glowing chain.

Anastassiades says, 'I have always been fascinated with the parallel that exists between Lighting and Jewelry. Starting from the simple fact of how each piece relates to the human scale: one is designed to be worn on the body whereas the other is made to decorate the space someone occupies. I’m challenged in how the delicate nature of something small can be translated spatially and still manage to retain its preciousness in the way materials are presented. It is no coincidence that the word ‘pendant’ has a double meaning. Existing both as a piece of jewelry that hangs from a chain worn round the neck, and a light designed to hang from the ceiling.'
