Case Study
Wellington, New Zealand

Intercontinental Hotel

The Club Lounge on the top floor of the hotel has spectacular views of Wellington City and Harbour, so the lighting solution for this space could not obstruct the view. The ceiling was also low so pendants were not suitable.

ECC, working with the client, recommended Soft Architecture by Flos Architectural. These recessed shapes are plastered into the ceiling or walls creating a unique and seamless effect. The fittings use colour-changing LED which can create different moods in the evening. Three sizes were used in the space creating interest, including one integrated with the fire flu for a spectacular wow-factor.

Easy Kap fittings were used in triples, both linear and in triangles to give task lighting discreetly over reception area serving counter and over the tables. The shape of the Easy Kap not only gave the desired light but also complemented the Soft Architecture circles.

The final touch to the Club Lounge was Spun table lamps used as features in the room - both traditional form in solid polished chrome finish at the reception desk, and plastered wall features which sit on columns.

ECC also supplied lighting to the refurbishment of the Twin Deluxe, Deluxe Executive and King Club Guest Rooms. All lights were required to be LED and most fittings had custom requirements beyond the standard models.

The bedside lamps were required to have presence in the room, a chrome finish and some height, with a switch on the base of the lamp. The shade needed to have diffuser so the lamp was not exposed. Options put forward from our existing overseas suppliers did not quite suit the brief so ECC undertook to have the lamp custom made.

The desk lamp was similarly hard to source, but fortunately Astro came to rescue with new release. It was yet to be in production but our supplier managed to get the product through on time and within budget, including the special colour flex that was requested.

Parklane Grande wall lights from Astro were chosen as the double wall light to sit between two beds in the Twin Rooms, with the shades made locally in a custom fabric colour and larger size.

Mashiko wall lights were specified for either side of the mirror in the bathroom, creating a strong feature.

In both parts of the project ECC managed to find product solutions to meet the client's brief and also supply to meet very tight budgets and delivery deadlines. The overall results look amazing and the client was very happy.
