Warm Up with Timber
17 August 2016
Our perennial favourite material, wood, has had new life breathed into it this year, with the preference being for walnut and other deep-toned timbers, with the occasional blonded wood.
The collection from Sollos pays homage to their long tradition in working with wood. A hint of colonialism is seen in the woven rattan back of the Bossa chair, which sits elegantly with the slimline Dinn dining table. Inventive curves feature in the casually chic Easy chair and quirky Twist coffee table.
Giorgetti’s Moore cabinet is similarly graceful, as is its Ibla chair whose rounded timber is perfectly complemented by a floating upholstered cushion in crisp cream and taupe.
Moore cabinet by Roberto Lazzeroni for Giorgetti – The Moore cabinet is perfect balance between craftsmanship and industrial innovation. The excellence of Italian design is clear from the selection of materials, the attention to details and the search for practical finishing touches, which demonstrate a comprehensive approach to contemporary living.
Raaf Table by Piet Boon Collection – A bold new addition to the Raaf series. The Raaf table has an elegant and robust appearance and showcases a perfect combination of functionality, aesthetics and individuality.
Inspired by the branches of a tree, the Fork ‘leg system’ provides the ability to expand, to create many different table configurations. Fork includes an entire family of tables that consists of different heights, shapes and finishes.
Tom Dixon’s Offcut range of birch and oak coffee tables and stools feature square legs that twist in surprising ways. What’s more, the range arrives to you flatpacked, giving you the chance to construct the beauties yourself with the wooden dowels supplied. Bravo!
Oak and walnut dominated the scene at Zeitraum, whose Mathias Hahn-designed Kin cabinets are stoic and modern, while their Formstelle offerings, the Morph chair and Turntable, are decidedly fluid in form.
Turntable Oval by Formstelle for Zeitraum – The archaic form of this table speaks for itself. It owes its unique identity to the feeling that it turns around its own axis. To all appearances, this round table has been carved from one piece of wood.
The distinguishing feature of the Blava Easy chair by Ritzwell are the textile straps to the back and underside of the chair which provide an elegant design statement together with providing a high level of comfort. The oak was released in the white oil finish this year to juxtapose the rich black leather.
