Balmoral Lane

24 March 2025

Situated in the coastal Redcliffs suburb of Christchurch, this unique home draws inspiration from its rugged volcanic surroundings. The monolithic stone walls, excavated directly from the site, anchor the building and enclose the ground floor, seamlessly blending the interior with the natural terrain.

The upper volume is defined by a sleek, mono-pitched form, wrapped in dark metal cladding and exposed steel. A timber-clad pavilion, veiled with operable screens blurs the boundary between the built and natural worlds. The ground floor contains two additional bedrooms and a secondary living space, all leading to a pool terrace and covered outdoor living areas.

The lighting design plays a critical role in creating and enhancing the interior and exterior spaces with a warm and ambient atmosphere that is also energy efficient. All of the products are used to reinforce the architectural language and seamlessly complement the surrounding landscape.
