Form Meets Function: Outdoor living redefined
30 April 2025
At this year’s Milan Fair, outdoor living took a bold step forward, where innovation met playfulness and design intelligence to create environments that respond to how we live today. We saw leading brands such as Royal Botania and Paola Lenti redefining outdoor furniture with new technology integrations.
Royal Botania brought intelligence to the forefront, showcasing heated dining tables that make year-round outdoor gatherings more inviting than ever. The seamless integration of warmth speaks to a growing demand for all-season usability. Their innovations didn’t stop there; the well-received parasol with built-in lighting and folding design demonstrated how technology can elevate even the most traditional pieces of outdoor furniture.
Roda collaborated with Missoni, bringing together design and fashion, to reinterpret their signature pieces. Missoni’s signature print was seen making a distinctive feature on Roda’s Orson and Lawrence chairs.
Paola Lenti showcased a masterclass in innovation and creative flair. Renowned for their bold use of colour and sculptural shapes, the brand introduced a delightful new line of children’s outdoor furniture. An imaginative extension of their existing collection. Scaled-down sofas, poufs, and accessories double as playful objects.
They also reimagined their iconic umbrella with a sophisticated update: lighting at its base. This detail, while small, is emblematic of the wider trend across Milan this year, embedding intelligence and utility into every element.
The focus on form and function is always a hallmark of great design. We found these pieces built not just to be seen, but to be lived in.
This year’s fair confirmed that the future of outdoor living is one of connection; between people, environments, and the elements themselves.
