Asili is a collaborative platform with a social impact. Asili produces high-quality handcrafted pieces, using natural, ethically sourced materials from East Africa. Asili offers a counterbalance to mass production and anonymous distribution chains: we create small, low-run collections that are thoughtfully designed and have a positive impact on the communities who create them.

Each item is made by hand, and every Asili purchase directly supports the growth and development of artisans and their trade. All Asili items are made by artisan groups that are Fair Trade Certified, in Uganda and Kenya. Our name borrows from the Swahili word for essence, genesis, the source of something. It stands for the truth or fundamental nature of a person or object.
