Celebrating 20 years of Lem

10 June 2020

This year, the famous Lem barstool by Lapalma celebrates its 20th birthday with the release of six new colours in olive green, coffee, brick, sky-blue, dove grey and pearl.

Lem initially captured worldwide audiences with its simple framework, light silhouette and versatility, embodying a vision of the new millennium with the fusion of Japanese culture and Italian technology.

The design of the Lem barstool was initially presented to Lapalma founders Dario and Romano Marcato in 1996 by London-based Japanese designers Shin and Tomato Azumi.

Presenting a small handmade brochure with a few pencil strokes, the beauty and uniqueness of the design immediately translated into a piece of furniture with a contemporary aesthetic and vision.

A few years later with another meeting, the new design was destined to become a symbol. Furthermore, with a year of testing, the final design you see today was released at the Milan Furniture Show in 2000.

The new colour additions set Lapalma to continue on their evolutionary path of modern conception and seamless design to provide a fresh take on the next 20 years and future projects to come.
