Designer Marcel Wanders and manufacturer Magis made news during Milan Design Week 2011 when Wanders released his intriguing Cyborg chair.
The provocative name references everything from robots to artificial intelligence, but with specific regar to Wanders’ piece, it evokes the combination wicker/plastic construction as, like a Cyborg,It combines seemingly disparate parts. Cyborg and Wanders are back in the news this week with Magis’ slight tweaking of the concept: the new Cyborg is entirely made of translucent polycarbonate

Marcel Wanders graduated cumlaude from the School of the Arts Arnhem in 1988 and in 1995 opened his own studio based in Amsterdam. Marcel Wanders first drew international recognition for his Knotted Chair produced by Droog Design in 1996. In 2001 he co-founded the successful design label Moooi, of which he is the art director.
Marcel Wanders is now ubiquitous, designing for global brands and high end furniture companies such as B&B Italia,Cappellini, Christofle, Bisazza, Poliform, KLM -Royal Dutch Airlines, Flos, Magis, Target, Baccarat and more recently Alessi and Marks & Spencers.
