Te Arai, New Zealand
Te Arai Beach House

Simon Wilson
Sitting in the dunes between forest and coastline as not to impose on the delicacy of the landscape, lies a pair of conjoined gabled timber sheds designed by Fearon Hay. The interior & exterior spaces separated only by the presence of sliding timber shutters.
The lighting design mimics the minimal linear aesthetic. Track lighting a mere continuation of functioning shutter tracks that walk the perimeter of the home, lying flush, defining interior from exterior.
Suspended in pitched pockets, or recessed into the warm oiled timber, the sleek and minimal fittings exist with the highest possible regard for function and streamline integration with the architecture.
