Eero Aamio was born on the 21st July 1932 in Helsinki, Finland. He is a Finnish interior designer who is renowned for his innovative furniture designs. Aarnio studied at the Institute of Industrial Arts in Helsinki and after opened his own interior and industrial design office in 1962. Over the years he experimented with many mediums such as plastic, polyethylene, fibreglass, foam. As an artist he demonstrates a joyful and humorous nature within his designs. This is illustrated through the shapes and figures of his furniture.
Eero Aarnio has many pieces of his work on display worldwide. These locations include many prestigious places such as the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Albert and Victoria Museum in London, MoMa museum in New York, Axis gallery in Tokyo and lastly the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. His designs have also been used in international fashion shoots, films and music. Aran has been recognised and presented with around seventeen impressive design awards. However his two most successful consisted of the Red Dot design award in 2012 and the Compass d’Oro design award in 2008. Overall Eero Aarnio uses simple concepts and innovative materials to create sculptured and functional furniture and lighting. As a designer he has helped establish himself and Finland in the international design market.
