Yellowtrace Interview: Interior Designer Rufus Knight

Rufus Knight is a notable Interior Designer in New Zealand and internationally. In less than two years, his boutique practice already has an enviable global portfolio of projects underpinned by design rigour that could be described as the sweet point between classicism and minimalism. Australian based design media Yellowtrace has recognised his brilliance, and in-conjunction with Laminex they interviewed Rufus Knight to tap into his intelligent mind and hear about his creative process.  ECC has collaborated with Rufus on multiple projects like the intimate Lonely stores in Wellington and Auckland View Project here and the Venice Biennale View Project here.   Read the full Yellowtrace interview here

Wallpaper* Design Awards 2018: Minotti is awarded the prize in the “Best Debut” category

Minotti’s relationship with the architect and designer Rodolfo Dordoni stretches back 20 years. And as artistic director, Dordoni has long overseen the brand’s output. In 2017, though, he decided to add extra hands and called on Christophe Delcourt. The French designer’s pieces feature sculptural shapes and subtle detailing, and he brings a sophisticated design sensibility that’s a perfect fit with Dordoni’s perfectly engineered elegance.   Photography: Luke Kirwan. Tom Dixon to Relocate Headquaters

Dixon is on the move, announcing he is shifting his headquarters from its current home at Portobello Dock to Kings Cross this March. Relocating to The Coal Office, a 17,500 sq ft complex - historically a coal distribution centre - Tom Dixon will create a new flagship shop, showroom, office, restaurant and cafe. Part of the new Coal Drops Yard retail quarter, their new Headquarters has further been conceived as a hub for designers and design, with partners to be confirmed in due course. Originally dating back to 1851, the Coal Office building follows the curve of the Regents Canal, and is undergoing restoration as part of the redevelopment of King's Cross. It is located within Coal Drop Yard, a new shopping quarter set to open as a whole in autumn 2018. With a focus on fashion, craft...

Wallpaper* Design Awards 2018: Blush Lamp by Formafantasma for Flos is awarded the prize in the “Best in Glass” category

‘The relationship humans have with light transcends a functional dimension and is elevated to an emotional one. Lamps are designed to illuminate the world with brightness, but also with the intimacy of shadow: the quality of light cannot solely be measured through its intensity. Blush Lamp makes use of a Led strip and a piece of dichroic glass to cast brightly-tinted reflections on walls to answer to the lack of colour saturation during winter months. With its sober design and meticulous use of light and colour, Blush Lamp recreates the indoor memory of a long summer day.’ Formafantasma

A Life Extraordinary

It was our absolute pleasure to host Marcel Wanders in conjunction with Moooi at ECC New Zealand. In Auckland, we teamed up with Urbis Magazine to put on a live conversation with Marcel with panellists, Frederico Monsalve (Editor - Urbis Magazine), Rhana Devenport (Director - Auckland Art Gallery) and Nat Cheshire (Director - Cheshire Architects).  We then continued to party the night away with many special friends. Friday, we flew Marcel down to Wellington to continue the celebrations of our two brands partnership.
